The Elwood Corporation put big smiles on the faces of the engineering and purchasing groups of a major producer of packaging equipment. The reason; these individuals confirmed that the Elwood H-Series servo motors directly replace HSM series motors (HSM320 and HSM460 for this company) that they had purchased from Giddings & Lewis Motion Control (G&L Motion), now part Danaher Corporation. These motors, manufactured by Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley and private-labeled for Giddings and Lewis Motion Control, had been used on packaging equipment for many years prior to going obsolete. The Giddings & Lewis HSM Series was made up of motors private labeled from Rockwell Automation. They are exactly the same motors as the Rockwell H-Series. The Elwood Corporation has acquired the equipment from Rockwell to make the critical H-Series components as repair parts. Elwood has designed the Elwood H-Series using the components so they are a direct replacement. The reason our packaging equipment manufacturer is so happy is that until they tried an Elwood H-Series motor they had difficulties acquiring replacements for HSM motors from G&L (now Danaher). The replacement motors they received from Danaher were significantly more expensive and were not direct replacements. Both Software and hardware modifications were required.
