Carton Sealing

Photoelectric quality control assures that all cartons passing through the control point on a conveyor are properly sealed. Improper seals on cartons are easily spotted by a photoelectric scanner mounted above the conveyor. Improperly sealed carton are automatically ejected from the conveyor.

After cartons are sealed, the conveyor takes them through the ''flap lifter'', which is a thin, stiff, flexible arm that slides along side of the container, pushing up any unsealed flaps on the side of the container. As each carton passes, flaps not securely glued are caught bey the flap lifter and lifted to break the photoelectric light beam. An ejecting device then removes the improperly sealed carton.

Where cartons have flaps on both sides, two flap lifters are used, either of which will operate the ejector.
